The Nameless Experience

Well this is pretty much a documentation of our very miserable experience while trying to complete the prerequisite Veins Siblings Quest for the Nameless Island Entrance Quest.

It really is hard and discouraging.

Well, I’ll tell my side of the story. Our misery started when leveling in Nifflheim and Anubis as an ME Priestess got dull — dull meaning that you’d have to consume a thousand blue gemstones for ME in Nifflheim mobs or kill a hundred Anubis before you could level.

So we sought a new place to level. Naturally, ME Priests would go to the Cursed Abbey next where they would stay up to 99. That was the plan. As simple as that. So we rode an airship to Rachel and walked all the way to Veins and the field south of it where the boat NPC going to the Nameless Island is located; the Cursed Abbey is on the Nameless Island. Already on the way to the boat, we saw a huge mob of agressive monsters attacking us. I, having heal, continuously healed myself and my companion while he, having Endure used it so he could still walk through the mob. But it was all useless. When we got to the boat, it doesn’t respond. So I gave up and died. I soon discovered that a quest was needed to be done so that we can access the Island. So we set foot to finish the Nameless Island Entrance Quest.

The Quest has 3 prerequisites: The Curse of Gaebolg, Rachel Sanctuary Quest and Veins Siblings Quest. It’s a good thing that I already had the Curse of Gaebolg done when I was still on Level 60 while my companion had the Rachel Sanctuary Quest done on his early levels. So we agreed that I do the Rachel Sanctuary Quest, and he do the Curse of Gaebolg until we finish those and do the Veins Siblings Quest together.

By that point we already knew that it’s going to be hard, especially the Thors part; parts of the Quest includes going to the Thors Volcano Dungeon 2 times, and the Dungeon is filled with very deadly monsters — deadly even to Level 99 High Priests. But obviously it was harder than it seemed.

Now, at this point, we’ve already finished all the prerequisite quests except the Veins one. So started gathering the required items for the quest. The only problems we encountered here is the Unripe Apple and the Green Herbs part; the first one being rare and the second one being hard to gather — my god! you need 100 Green Herbs to finish the Quest, and that is if you’re lucky.

As I’ve said, we needed a hundred Green Herbs to finish the Quest so we headed to Hevergelmir’s Fountain — that is the map going to Nifflheim that is filled with herbs, actually this map has the highest spawn of herbs. Just getting there has been already troublesome. Unlike our previous visits to Nifflheim — we went through this place to go to Nifflheim — this time, by some reason, the Umbala Dungeon was exceptionally mobby; I’ve even manage to die a couple of times by just passing through this Dungeon!

And now, we’re on the Fountain. We hunted down all the Green Herbs that we saw. However, by some stroke of bad luck, my friend, while killing an herb near the one-way Fountain-Nifflheim portal, accidentally managed to have entered himself through the portal all the way to Niffleheim. Bad luck as it is, the portal is one-wayed; that is, you can go to Nifflheim but not back. So I’ve advised him to go to Nifflheim town itself and do the Piano Keys Quest which will give him free warp to Umbala. But, again by misfortune, being not even half-way through, he died and respawned in Alberta. This forced him to go back again to the Fountain through the exceptionally mobby Umbala Dungeon. As if that was not enough, the accident happenned again. And again, he died and was forced to respawn to the very far-from-Nifflheim Alberta. We’re so lucky.

At the end we managed to hunt around 150 Green Herbs. We stopped when we found out that we don’t only need a hundred herbs but hundreds of them. Since the quest requires the quester to use 20 Herbs to gather poop, and one needs 5 poops, optimally one would need a hundred herbs. But there’s a catch, this poop-gathering-by-herb is only by chance, and that is a very low chance. So I’ve headed to the forums to find the likely number of herbs that we would need. As I’ve read one used 200 while another one used up to 700 herbs just to gather 5 poops.

At that point, we no longer hunted but just bought the herbs from overpricing players. I believe I have spent 100k zeny just to gather 800 herbs which I distributed evenly to ourselves. I’ve also discovered at this point that herbs, at great quantity, are extremely heavy; it even caused me to be overweight all the time.

Now, armed with hundreds of herbs, and really bad luck, we actually started to do the Quest. For ease of transportation, my companion, who is also my in-game husband, bought a teleportation scroll which he used to get himself to Veins, and thereon call me — it’s a wedding skill, which only the married can use, and allows the married one to call on there partner and teleport them to the spot where the calling partner is.

There, we’ve talked to NPC’s and headed to Thors. My companion decides not to walk all the way to Level 2, where the Quests requires us to be, but use Giant Fly Wings — these are usable items which teleport the whole party to a random spot on the current map — which he believes that, by chance, could actually teleport us on the portal going to Level 2. So we teleported again and again but we’re so unlucky that we didn’t even manage to get close to the portal. We’ve stopped as we are stuck on a dungeon filled with deady monsters.

A few moments late, we managed to cross paths with a kind Level 99 High Priest together with a High Wizardess that he’s boosting — yes, it’s Wizardess, as contrary to popular belief, it’s actually wizardess is to wizard as witches are to warlocks. He offers his assistance to deliver us to the Level 2 Portal. A dozen of deaths later — I went there as Lvl 75 - 20%/Jlvl 44 - 65%, and ended up with both 0%’s — we didn’t even make it through the first level, and the HPriest and HWizardess died with us. What a sad ending.

It would also be a fine addition to the story that I gave all my gemstones to the High Priest, and saved myself at Veins where I am now stuck in the middle of nowhere for eternity with no gemstones to warp myself back to the civilisation of Prontera. This sucks.

As the Abbey is Cursed, and the Island Nameless, this experience is Cursed, and this post must remain Nameless.
